The world premiere of Overblow, a new clarinet concerto by Finnish composer Sauli Zinovjev, is now available to stream on Radio France.
Commissioned by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the work received its first performance in Paris on 5 June, with Nicolas Baldeyrou as soloist and François Leleux conducting.
The concerto combines Zinovjev's distinctive orchestral language with a virtuosic and expressive solo part. Nicolas Baldeyrou describes Overblow as an atmospheric work driven by a powerful, rock-inspired rhythmic pulse while remaining deeply accessible and emotionally engaging for audiences.
Zinovjev's music has been widely praised by critics. The Wall Street Journal has described it as "vivid, gripping and unpredictable", while the Chicago Tribune has called it "written with brilliance and infused with tremendous vitality."
